5 Things To Include On Your Shooting Practice Checklist
Did you know that there are more than 81.4 million gun owners in the U.S.?
Perhaps you are one of those owners who feels like you’re not making progress or just want to make sure that your shooting skills are as effective as possible. Whatever your motivation, creating a checklist for your practice can help ensure that you’re focusing on the right things and keeping track of your progress.
Today, we’ll share five things to include on your shooting practice checklist so that you can take your skills to the next level.
Get ready to fire!
1. Ammunition
Before heading to the range, it’s important to double-check that you have enough ammunition for your firearm. Depending on the types of guns you’re using, the caliber of ammunition will be different.
Make sure to do your research so that you’re using the correct types of ammunition for your gun. Also, be sure that you have enough rounds and figure out how many shots it will take you to hit the bullseye.
2. Gun
The most important thing to include in your shooting kit is to make sure to use a working gun. Before going to the range, inspect your weapon and make sure it’s in good working condition. Check for any obvious malfunctions, such as an empty magazine.
Make sure the barrel is free of any obstructions. When you arrive at the range, it’s important to check and confirm the gun is unloaded before you place it on the shooting table.
3. Safety Gear
No matter what kind of shooting practice you’re doing, it’s important to always wear the proper safety gear. This includes ear and eye protection, a gun belt, and a holster.
Make sure you have a good pair of earplugs or earmuffs to protect your hearing. You should also invest in a good pair of safety glasses to keep your eyes safe from debris and ricocheting bullets.
For the belt and holster, make sure you choose something comfortable and easy to use.
4. Shooting Targets
There are many types of targets available, so it’s important to choose ones that will help you achieve your specific goals. If you’re just getting started, paper targets are a great option. They’re inexpensive and easy to set up.
If you’re looking to improve your accuracy, steel targets are a good choice. They provide instant feedback so you can see how well you’re doing. Additionally, they can be used with a variety of guns, from pistols to rifles.
5. Proper Clothing
When you’re heading to the shooting range, it’s important to dress properly. Wearing the right clothing will help you stay comfortable and focused while you’re practicing. Wear closed-toe shoes for this will protect your feet from any flying debris.
Avoid loose-fitting clothes for you don’t want anything getting caught in the trigger or other moving parts of the gun. Opt for light colors for dark colors can absorb heat, making you more uncomfortable in the hot sun.
Lastly, depending on the weather, you may need to layer up if necessary and wear a light jacket or long pants to keep warm.
