The problem here for me is the lack of definition around “assault weapon”. I don’t think Biden has ever defined that. In an op ed, he said they were defined as “military-style firearms designed to fire rapidly”. Well, that was covered in the 1994 ban, so what gives?
I think this is just political rhetoric. Maybe universal background checks are more realistic and not totally egregious in my view.
He’s trying to appeal to people frightened by the mass shootings.
Until there are specific policy positions outlined, I don’t think this merits too much hand-wringing for us lawful gun owners. Just a politician doing his thing.
