ATF Alert During Ongoing Protests
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) is contacting federal firearm license holders and giving them several guidelines to observe during the ongoing protests. The bureau is using push notifications, emails, direct calls, and robocalls to remind firearm holders to take the necessary precautions to protect themselves and their guns.
One of the guidelines given by the ATF is to ensure firearm holders lock their weapons in secure places to prevent them from falling into the wrong hands. The ATF also reminds owners to secure their firearm records as well as their and inventory. Securing the documents is essential in case they need to produce records during a hearing or in case of any legal confusion. Such problems are likely to occur in jurisdictions with a patchwork of gun laws, thus putting firearms owners at risk of unintentional violation.
The bureau also advises gun owners to stay away from their businesses during the protests to avoid sustaining injuries during breakages or arson. The federal agency also directed permit holders to report any misplaced, lost, or stolen firearms. Gun owners are also advised to report any suspicious people or activity to law enforcement.

So, they do not want you to protect your property.
When I wondered on a few blogs why gun shops didn’t put their guns in safes (better safes than mine) when they closed to prevent just the sort of break-ins the ATF is warning about, I was given two reasons: wear and tear on the guns, and that many (if not most) simply didn’t have the storage required, instead relying on other passive barriers to break-ins.
